Our Story: Indian Cotton, Hand-Block Craft

Ours begin in the cotton mills of Tamil Nadu, travel through the printing villages of Rajasthan, and come together in Kolkata — before finding their way to you, wherever you are in India.

In India, clothing has never been just clothing. Every region has its own fabric, its own craft, its own story — the fine cotton of the South, the hand-printed colours of the West, the weaves and embroidery of the East. For generations, what we wore told the world where we came from and what we valued.

Entimessi was born in Kolkata — the city that once wove muslin so fine it was called woven air, and where Indian cloth became a symbol of pride during the Swadeshi movement. Kolkata has always taken ideas from the world and made them its own. We do the same with clothing: modern shapes, Indian soul.

The Thread: Cotton from Coimbatore

Coimbatore is known as the Manchester of South India, and its mills have spun cotton for over a hundred years. That's where our cotton comes from — soft, breathable and strong, made for Indian summers, monsoons and long days. It gets more comfortable with every wash.

The Print: Rajasthan's Hand-Block Heritage

In the artisan villages of Bagru and Sanganer near Jaipur, printing is still done the way it has been for centuries. Wooden blocks are carved by hand. Each design is pressed onto the fabric one block at a time, lined up by eye. Some prints use Dabu, a mud-resist technique; others are dyed in natural indigo.

No two pieces are exactly the same. A small shift in a print is the sign of a human hand, not a mistake.
